Burscough Outreach Trust

The Burscough Outreach Trust (Registered Charity 1089034) was established in September 2001 and is based in Burscough, Lancashire, where most of its work takes place. Its aims are:

  • to advance education in accordance with the Christian faith amongst children and young people;
  • to relieve persons who are in need or suffering from hardship, including the aged and sick, and to relieve their distress;
  • to promote and fulfil any other charitable purposes in line with the above objectives as the trustees from time to time determine.

In order to meet these aims, The Burscough Outreach Trust employs two Youth and Children's Co-ordinators, a Pastoral Co-ordinator and an administrator who work through the parish church of St John the Baptist, Burscough.

Youth and Children's Work

The Youth and Children's Co-ordinators oversee a wide ranging programme of midweek and weekend activities for children and young people of all ages, from babies and toddlers to older teenagers. As well as weekly youth clubs and meetings, they oversee creative groups for young people (puppet group, youth band) and regularly take young people on residential and outward bound trips. They visit local schools regularly, taking assemblies and lessons and assisting with after school clubs. Other aspects of their role include coordinating and training the large number of volunteers who are involved with this work, as well as offering pastoral support to young people and their families and supporting young people with additional needs.

Pastoral Work

The Pastoral Co-ordinator oversees pastoral care within the parish, looking after a large team of volunteers who provide care such as

  • visiting the sick, elderly and isolated;
  • providing practical support such as lifts and emergency meals in times of need;
  • regular visiting of local care homes
  • supporting those who have been bereaved.

As well as being involved in this day to day care, the coordinator provides training and support for the volunteers.
